LA-based musician Dawen is one of our favorites, so we were thrilled that he’s the newest guest blogger for our Bands On Tour feature. Learn more about him here!

It is so incredibly good to be back in New York! In many ways I’m an East Coast kid at heart. Even when I was living in Chicago, I thrived off public transportation and taxis, both of which are lacking in LA. Walking around the city today, looking for a hat for my head, and getting ready for tonight’s show at The Five Points Variety Hour Silk Road Cafe, I took a lot of pix:

ChinaFunRestaurant

Nothing says "authentic" like a Chinese restaurant with a ridiculous name! Really, people? China Fun? Sounds real fun...

New York's a very colorful place. There's always interesting things to look at on the street: markets, and vendors everywhere.

First stop on the New York leg of the American Me Tour! After a crazy cab ride where the driver nearly gets us killed, I arrive infront of the Silk Road Cafe, Chinatown.

After the sound check and going over some songs with Alfa, it's showtime!

Camera died shortly after.. otherwise there’d be a pic of me and Alfa!

The show was awesome! What a way to kick off the tour! Thank you to everyone who came to the show. I love these acoustic solo shows because the intimate environment means you can really hear the audience listening. Telly, Stephen: you guys got a good thing going on!

Now it’s time to sleep. Vassar tomorrow! Going upstate!
