The title for this article should really be “I can’t wait for this album to drop!” For real- this album will fully represent the global evolution hip hop has undergone over the past three decades. Meet A.R.M. (an acronym for African Rebel Music. You gettin’ excited???), made up of emcee’s M.anifest and Krukid, and musician Budo. M.anifest is from Ghana. Krukid hails from the gritty streets of Kampala, Uganda. Together, they represent a new element in hip hop, especially here in the US. The two emcees can out-write, in English (not their mother tongues), most of today’s english emcees. They bring refreshing perspectives, lyrical content, and subject matter that will make this album stand out from the many dope, conscious hip hop albums that come out every year in the US. But most importantly, in my opinion these guys are lyrical beasts. M.anifest brings a soulful energy to the mic that is so often lost in hip hop albums today while Krukid will murder any track (and basically almost any emcee) with his unique flow, syncopation, rhythm, and rhyme structure. Let me repeat, “I can’t wait for this album to drop.” To get me even more excited, the crew just released their first music video entitled ‘Heaven Only Knows,’ which is a track that features the one and only, lyrical heavyweight and underground hip hop champion Brother Ali.
